Stoke-on-Trent Engagement Shoot | Charly & Jack

Beauty Within My Cultural Quarter

It’s no secret I am a big lover of my hometown of Stoke-on-Trent and even though I promised to leave when I was a teenager there is actually no other place I’d rather be than this outcast city of lovely folk and not to forget the delicious humble oatcake.

Every now and again I love to create myself little projects within my work and one of those was to shoot an engagement shoot in Stoke-on-Trent town center of Hanley. I really believe every space has an incredible beauty amongst it despite the sharp edges and unkempt spaces. Hanley is a town center like most across the UK. It boasts a lot of those all too familiar high street names whilst on the periphery has started a rebirth of independence within it’s Cultural Quarter.

I really love the work so many restaurants and boutiques are doing within this space in Stoke-on-Trent’s town center. I wanted to draw some more attention to something which I really don’t believe is getting enough of a look in.

So myself, Charly & Jack headed up to Hanley in Stoke-on-Trent to capture some of the beauty of this grand city. I hope you love the photographs as much as I do.

Stoke-on-Trent; A City Steeped in an Artistic History Past & Present

From its rich history as The Potteries Stoke-on-Trent has always been a city which celebrates and enjoys the artistic outputs of its residents. Because of this force behind its independent individuals, we’re treated to some incredible business’ throughout our city.

As the name suggests Stoke-on-Trent was a one-trick pony back in the day as most of the world’s pottery came from within this blue-collar working city. Although most of the industry has now gone by the wayside it still celebrates its history with its beautiful visitor centres at Spode and Wedgewood whilst Portmerion and the Emma Bridgewater still churn piles of clay out each year.

On the newer artistic front, we have We Are Culla leading the charge with their colourful murals throughout the city centre. Whilst Yellowstone AB in Trentham and NULC Made Here sell beautiful decor and wears. Pushing the envelope of food within the city centre we have the incredible Slamwich Club and also one of my favourite places, KLAY.

In the above engagement shoot photographs, we have murals by or collaborated with the following incredible artists and business’, We Are Culla, Faust, YMCA, Gary Stranger, Pref ID , Stoke-on-Trent BID and I’ve most probably missed someone so feel free to reach out.
