A Countryside Wedding Venue in Staffordshire
Acton Trussell’s Moat House has an abundance of charm whether it’s within their historic house, it’s plentiful gardens or even the delicious food. It’s one of the top wedding venues I love to photograph at within Staffordshire.

Through the magic of a 360 camera, I’m able to capture behind-the-scenes content on my wedding days to show my current and future couples exactly what it would like for them to have me along at their Moat House at Acton Trussell wedding day
All of these videos and more are captured in the most subtle way making sure to not disrupt the wedding day at all. I feel the connection between a couple and their photographer is a really important factor hence why I wanted to show this part of my work as well. I’m not like every wedding photographer and showing you these behind-the-scenes videos from Moat House hopefully helps me to reinforce that statement.

From our initial meeting with Adam right the way through to our wedding he was approachable, helpful and always happy to offer advice when we weren’t sure about things. We initially met over Zoom and after spending 2 hours chatting we knew he was the best person for the job. Closer to the wedding he came over to our house and we discussed the photos we wanted and the logistics of the day
We couldn’t be more pleased with our photographs, they completely encapsulated the joy of the day.

A Moated History in Acton Trussell
In South Staffordshire lies the small parish of Acton Trussell which is home to the Moat House. The oldest part of this building was once a farmhouse and is Grade II listed dating back to the 15th century and saw alterations in the 18th century before the current-day modernisation to make it into a hotel and restaurant. Sitting parallel to the Staffordshire and Worcester canals this house used to be isolated by its own canal-fed moat which was a show of wealth for countryside homes at the time. The Southside of this moat has since been filled in and now features the car park which feeds the hotel and restaurant. The remaining section of the moat has now been cut off and forms a large lake to the roadside and a smaller pond dividing the hotel from the nearby village of Acton Trussell.
Having many prestigious owners in its history the Moat House at Acton Trussell is now independently owned by the Lewis families group, The Lewis Partnership also owns, The Bank House, The Dog & Doublet Inn and The Red Lion. Just minutes away from junction 13 of the M6 motorway you’d be forgiven for thinking you were somewhere else as the rolling Staffordshire countryside unfolds before you. You’re also just a few short miles away from Penkridge and Stafford.
A Wedding Day at The Moat House
Leaving no stone unturned whether you’re getting ready at the Moat House or not their Library is there for you to use as your dressing room to add all of those finishing touches before you walk down the aisle. Being onsite and so close to your service will help to ease all those pre-wedding jitters for sure.
There is no wedding venue in Staffordshire which offers the incredibly diverse offering for your ceremony which The Moat House does. They have something for every guest number and every taste. If you want to be flooded in natural light whilst you say your “I do’s” then you can use The Orangery Restaurant (80 people capacity) for your service or maybe you want the Grade II listed vibe and in that case, it’s the Colin Lewis Suite (70 people capacity) for you which is moody and atmospheric with its oak beams above you. Or maybe it’s Summer and you really want to embrace the English weather and marry outdoors well then the Lakeside is for you and you can have Staffordshire Registrars perform your legal service beneath the Lakeside Pergola (130 people capacity). For bigger days the Acton Suite is capable of holding 130 and still has waterside views through large windows. Finally, the fifth option is to marry before God at St. James’ Church which is a short walk away from The Moat House and is over 800 years old. There really isn’t anything that The Moat House can’t entertain when it comes to your service.
Wedding drinks receptions at the Moat House sure are fantastic as you can choose to take them overlooking the lake at the front of the property or sit and watch the barges glide by at the rear. Where ever you choose to take a rest though The Moat House offers nothing but peace throughout.
With 2 AA Rosettes for their beautiful Orangery Restaurant and Lounge bar, you’re sure to have a mouth-wateringly delicious wedding breakfast served to you whilst you look out over the canal side. James their chef sources their food locally including ribeye steaks from Dunwood Farm making their food something else and the reason their on-site Orangery Restaurant is always so busy. Their Afternoon Tea options are especially appealing and a favourite with returning guests.
When it comes to kicking your shoes off a getting down to boogie The Acton Suite serves as the perfect place to hold up to 200 of your evening guests and keep them all field at the Acton Bar right next to it.
One of the best features of the Moat House is its accommodation with it being a working hotel. It has 41 bedrooms which is enough for even the largest of weddings. The best of it, The Moat House usually includes the prestigious Honeymoon Suite for no extra charge.
Photographing Amongst Staffordshire Countryside
When it comes time to take those natural wedding portraits there is an abundance of opportunities including the beautifully landscaped gardens, the 16th-century farmhouse, quaint canal bridges, snowdrops and bluebell woodland with its incredible horse chestnut tree. There is something for all tastes and styles so it makes being an Acton Trussell Wedding Photographer so incredibly easy.
There’s nothing I love more than escaping for 5 minutes to wander around the grounds with a couple in the Staffordshire evening sun. It really is the greatest feeling.
